Aberdeen pub looks forward to live-in customers with latest student build
Halliday Fraser Munro, working in concert with structural engineer Cameron & Ross, have brought forward plans for 40 student beds on the site of a former function suite serving the Brig O’Dee bar, Holburn Street.

The marriage made in heaven is situated midway between Robert Gordon University’s Garthdee campus and the city centre, with the finalised scheme also offering a sheltered garden space to the rear offering amenity for residents.

The architects wrote: “The massing and elevation treatment of the proposed development aims to create a bold contemporary addition to the existing area rather than mimicking the traditional characteristics of surrounding buildings.

“Materials have been used in a way to break up the façade and define the prominent corner block, while recessed brickwork is used to emphasize openings and compliment the proportions of the elevation.”

A materials palette of buff and dark brickwork together with copper coloured coated aluminium has been specified for the build.

Does 'bold' mean' sticking out like a sore thumb'?

Gateway Development.....
Great relationship with context HFM. Bronzes gold windows..how very 2015, but I guess this is utterly revolutionary in Aberdeen. Copy and paste commercial architecture.

You have to ask why is the first CGI so heavily cropped???
This must be a mistake by Urban Realm's leather clad editing suite.
Surely HFM should be proud of their work and want to show off the whole building?

Another sympathetic, well detailed and in-keeping piece of original architecture from HFM - well done! (I'm being sarcastic btw)That must have taken all of 5 minutes to design

How do HFM time and again seem to get these projects? They are ruining the city scape of Aberdeen with their terrible buildings, yet nobody seems to bat an eyelid.

This is marginally better than the usual output from HFM (but that isn't saying much) agree with no. 4 HFM slowly but surely spoiling a City that could have been great if guided in the right way...probably too late now.
As with most HFM projects this will no doubt be value engineered then have marley, sarnafil and cheap as chips bricks thrown at it.

This looks like an out of place, ugly brute of a building. The huge beastly mass and bland materials are just grim. HFM continue to disappoint
Their quoted design justifications' are just empty words without any grounding.

Bravo, yet another nasty eyesore brough to Aberdeen by the hands of the 'brilliant' minds at HFM.

Did they not bring in big Malky Fraser to get better at design?!?! Even cropping half the proposal out the first image hasn't helped, it still looks awful

Do they occupants get a free bus pass as their front door is apparently a bus stop?

Does Malcolm Fraser still actually work there?

To be fair, at least they were honest about ignoring the context of the site. Those pesky buildings with their traditional characteristics..
