RIAS claim Festival of Architecture success one year on
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland has published a ‘report card’ detailing figures pertaining to last year’s Festival of Architecture which show that it was ‘Scotland’s largest ever festival’ (in terms of geographic reach) with 460 events and 1.5m participants.

The figures, compiled by Culture Republic, are contained within a breakdown of the year-long event which it is said generated £8.8m for the economy.

David Dunbar PPRIAS, chair, Festival of Architecture 2016, remarked: “The Festival of Architecture 2016 was Scotland’s largest ever single artform event. Year-long and Scotland-wide, it welcomed over 1.575million visitors, reaching parts no previous Festival has reached. Islands and remote communities held mini-festivals and small towns welcomed visiting exhibitions. 126 partner organisations, including the Children’s Parliament, the National Galleries and National Museums of Scotland, generated over 460 public-facing events.”

A follow-up 2017 festival, smaller in scale, will include a reprise of the exhibition Adventures in Space and a touring exhibition of residential design between 2000 and 2020, undertaken throughout the month of September.
