June 1 2017granted the at-risk landmark a stay of execution.
The eventual winner will work alongside BAM Construction, recently appointed by Hub East Central Scotland, to oversee transformation of the venue into a ‘visual arts visitor experience’, bringing the structure back into use since closing its doors in 2005.
When complete the building will boast a 1,500sq/m exhibition hall capable of hosting permanent archaeological and social history exhibitions as well as temporary collections. A learning suite, collections handling area, café and retail area will complete the line-up of facilities.
The B-listed landmark was built in 1914 to designs by HE Clifford and Lunan and will now form a key plank of Perth’s UK City of Culture 2021 bid alongside a Hoskins-led revitalization of the city’s museum and art gallery.
