Work to get underway on Park Circus missing link
Expresso Property are to begin work to complete a missing link at Glasgow’s Park Circus next month with construction of 98 homes ranging from one bedroom flats through to four-bed duplexes.

Park Quadrant Residences will complete the original masterplan of concentric rings conceived by Charles Wilson in 1851 by infilling the final plot of land with new flats finished in natural sandstone to respect the existing Victorian streetscape.

David Gardner, architect at Holmes Miller, said: “The Park Quadrant Residences have been designed to celebrate being part of the completed masterplan, whilst having their own confident architectural language. The design creates a subtle contemporary reinterpretation of various key elements including the window proportions, stonework detail and feature entrances. We believe Park Quadrant Residences are a fitting tribute to Charles Wilson’s original plans and a crowning jewel in the Park area.”

Designed to respect the heritage of Park Circus the new homes include a flamboyant roofscape intended to offer a contemporary twist on the Victorian grandeur of Park Terrace.

I know plenty have already criticised this development but I like it. It's great to see the original plan finally completed. NIMBYs will always complain, and that's fair enough. If I lived there I'd want it kept as trees as well, but the fact is it's not entirely up to them and neither it should be.
Having said that, the roof is cheap and naff though - as Sue Pearman commented on the linked post - clunky!

I really like it, roof included. If only all new residential builds in the city could be so nice.

I especially like the ashlar stone front door.

Let's face it.

It could be far, far worse.

Well done HM.

Is that the yardstick for Scottish architecture now? 'It could be worse?' Yikes.

I just can't forgive that awful, awful roof. Lose that and it's passable.

Totally incongruous...a mild, pastiche facade with a jaunty, trendy roof , possibly inspired by the Transportation Museum. Meh..

looks good, not sure about the stone front door though. Maybe the 3d visualiser had one too many coffees that day.

Overall it blends in whilst being modern. The roof line looks like a take on the new transport museum and the worse for it. It will not weather well and look bad after ten years. Curved would look less intrusive and less 1980s, fits with windows of the Victorian times and will let rain and ice fall off.
