Aberdeen’s Capitol building nabs BCO award
A refurbished former cinema on Aberdeen’s Union Street has been lauded by the British Council of Offices in the latest round of their annual property awards, securing a win in the best commercial workplace category.

Designed by Keppie on behalf of Knight Property Group and M&G Real Estate, the project retained many of the cinemas art deco features while inserting modern office space above and behind.

Fraser Low, director of Keppie Interiors, commented: “Considering what we encountered on our first building visit, I am delighted that the clarity of our initial design thinking remains true in the finished spaces. This is testament to our client’s early buy-in and the team’s unwavering drive for sympathetic restoration married to innovative workplace ideas.”

I'm sure it will be up for more awards too - the Carbuncle Award springs to mind...

Considering that the majority of Keppie's staff that worked on this project were made redundant from the closure of the Perth office not long after completion - this smacks a bit!

I take it that gross box that sits atop didn't form part of the judges consideration when allocating the award? The interior of that is just your typical bland Cat A office spec...they're lucky they had the cinema element to give it a little bit of character!

All kneel at the next new false idol....
It does have a 1930's feel to it....any shoeshine boys in reception?

Sad to see it as a corporate office - I saw many great bands there, from 1979 onwards...
