Inverclyde Council play ball with Greenock early years centre
Inverclyde Council has lent its approval to construction of a new Early Years Centre in Greenock designed by Holmes Miller and CCG.

The West End Early Years Centre on Madeira Street will offer places for 100 pupils within the grounds of the recently demolished Greenock Academy, offering a range of playrooms peppered with flexible furniture and seating.

An open canopy structure defines the entrance to the early years centre with punched openings infilled with full-height glazing while openings to the north elevation, bookended by projecting classroom pods, are recessed for shelter.

In their design statement the architects noted: “The building comprises a central ‘gable form’ clad in dark grey fibre cement slate which houses the playrooms and main circulation through the building. To the rear of this, a further box clad in vibrantly coloured fibre cement panels houses all of the support accommodation.”

Sliding laser cut aluminium shutters are integrated within the design to provide additional privacy and security as required.
