Glasgow gap-site gives ground to community events space
Woodlands Community Development Trust are to begin work on the first phase of a community garden after being granted a 15-year lease on an urban gap-site bounded by Ashley Street and West Princes Street.

The vacant plot of land will now be landscaped with the addition of a small meeting hub delivered by Kraft Architecture + Research and Lochlie Construction Group. Manufactured off-site by Carbon Dynamic this pod will be craned into position in April.

Upon completion, this will allow the land to function as an events and exhibition space and provide facilities for use of garden staff and volunteers whilst also improving access.

Architect Bruce Newlands said: “Woodlands Workspace will use innovative environmentally friendly technologies to bring back to life an urban gap site that has lain unused for three decades.”

A second phase of work will see creation of a lettable artist studio for occupation in spring 2018, subject to an ongoing fundraising campaign.

This is great! Truly great, I have always loved seeing the way the community developed this space, and to see it secured for a further 15 years is excellent news.

What a waste of space.
