234-bed Dalry student housing complex completes
The latest addition to Edinburgh’s mushrooming student housing has opened its doors in Dalry, 18 months after CCG began work on the modular build.

The Orwell Terrace project provides a home to students of Napier University and takes the form of three distinct blocks dominated by a seven-storey rotunda. The complex seeks to establish an urban presence next to Dalry Park, offering tenants en-suite shower rooms , shared kitchen/diners and ubiquitous wi-fi.

CCG chairman Alastair Wylie said: “The development was constructed using CCG’s own ‘Off-Site Manufactured’ (OSM) timber frame system. Due to the size of the site and the singular access road, we simply would not have been able to deliver the project without utilising modern methods of construction.

“Student housing is in high demand and a growing market for CCG. This is the third student housing project to be completed by the Group in the last two years.”

Concept plans by Allan Murray Architects were delivered by executive architects Cooper Cromar for developer Cityheart

In the main image, what purpose do the ground and first floor timber side panels serve?

A good addition, which is very much in the spirit of the austere tenement architecture in the neighbourhood. Access to the park by a gate and steps has been included, as planned, but when I passed by the other day the fence was only partially removed and indeed looked like it had been unhappily forced.
