Edinburgh school’s investment programme rolls on
The City of Edinburgh Council is pressing ahead with measures to increase school’s capacity across the city with plans for a new gym hall to free up dining capacity at St Margaret’s RC primary, South Queensferry.

Following hot on the heels of additional classroom space at Liberton Primary the school hall will be faced in fibre cement cladding and standing seam zinc above a brick basecourse

In their design statement Scott Brownrigg commented: “By adopting a simple, singular form which in its materiality makes reference to the existing context, the proposal maintains a clear relationship with the site and its surroundings whilst still retaining an individual character.”

The extension ought to be complete by August 2017.

Portacabins - think that's the "singular form" they were referencing. Even though there are clearly 2 portacabins.

The design statement should read “inspiring juxtaposition of 2 humping volumes, referencing the historic ‘portacabin’ vernacular of a 1980’s playground.”

I remember one educationalist at a public meeting describing the expansion of a school through the use of "temporary modular units", to which I retorted, you mean "portacabins" which brought public applause. Beware of jargon. Sad that this permanent investment as noted above looks like portacabins.
