November 9 2016erect 169 self-contained studio flats on a high-visibility surface car park opposite Glasgow’s High Court at Jocelyn Square, Bridgegate.
Designed to respect a B-listed tenement on the Saltmarket the elevational treatment will include rough cut stone, masonry and zinc cassettes with a seven storey mass intended to help respect the ‘urban grain’.
A design statement read: “The design of the proposal is intended to positively influence regeneration in the area whilst respecting its urban context. The scale and massing of the proposal directly relates to the adjacent listed properties in order to create the impression of a continuous, congruent street scene. This is further implemented by the use of materials which relate to the contextual heritage of the area whilst remaining appropriate for a contemporary piece of urban architecture.”
The main entrance will be inserted off St Margaret’s Place with the entire ground floor given over to social use, including a gym looking out over mart Street and Bridgegate.
Granite stone setts, limestone paving, stainless steel bike stands and tree planting will further serve to integrate the building within its setting.
