Aberdeenshire Council have prepared plans for the creation of Huntly homes
Aberdeenshire Council have drawn up plans for the creation of 12 affordable homes within Huntly town centre, Aberdeenshire, a conservation area.

Situated on a joiner’s workshop and car park the L-shaped site sandwiched between Deveron and George Street will make way for two blocks fronting a semi-private courtyard space.

The backlands build will be set back from the street to form defensible space with the main public rooms overlooking the square and road with smaller windows overlooking neighbouring properties.

In a planning statement Halliday Fraser Munro Architects wrote: “The site location in the Huntly Town Centre Conservation Area and the adjacent urban forms suggest a more traditional approach to the massing of the new development. This will be achieved by the adoption of a traditional gable proportion and the articulation of the roof-scape with dormer windows to the upper floors and chimney features.”

"Traditional gable proportion" - ok, but you'd be hard pushed to find any traditional gables stepped in plan like that.
Fake chimneys - if you must, but why draw attention to fact they're fake by having no space for the fake fireplaces below them?

If they use the right materials they should look fine. If not...

#1 It's HFM.
From the HFM book of architecture style, "Gable + Chimney = Traditional".

The same book states "Flat Roof minus Chimney = Contemporary".
Add a curved corner to make it "Futurist".

I am joking of course. I love their work.
