August 4 201640 room student accommodation block in the Highland town of Fort William, together with a single storey plant room, bike store and bin room.
Prepared on behalf of Cityheart and the University of the Highlands and Islands the scheme will be finished in render and grey timber effect rainscreen cladding, with panels of ‘punchy’ feature colour under a slate roof.
In their design statement the architects said: “A simple palette of materials is proposed. This is reflective of the materials to be found in the locale without intending to create a pastiche.”
Mindful of an often harsh climate the architects have also incorporated broad gutters and steep roof profile.
Situated on a main road close to Belford Hospital the scheme seeks to juggle an urban response to a busy junction with the more domestic scale found further along Fassifern Road.
The project follows hot on the heels to deliver a similar student build in Dornoch.
