Combined Dundee school’s campus brought forward
Holmes Miller Architects have submitted plans for a new build primary school and nursery at Lothian Crescent on behalf of Dundee City Council.

North East Campus will replace the local Longhaugh , St Luke’s & St Vincent’s Primary’s in addition to two nurseries which have reached the end of their lifespan.

In their design statement the architects observed: “Facing brickwork is proposed as the principal material, which will comprise standard format bricks of varied tones of grey. The facing brickwork also allows articulation and expression to be added to the elevation, to create a building of distinct quality and character.

“A contemporary and elegant form is proposed, with deep brickwork reveals at windows and doorways creating a building of substance and stability. In contrast to the brickwork, precast concrete sills are proposed to highlight key features of the building and delineate the horizontal floors.”

Key features of the build include a well-proportioned entrance lobby and diagonal link corridor as well as a central atrium housing a combined assembly, dining and social space. Lit by EFTE rooflights this space will be overlooked by elevated balconies and ‘pods’.

A large multifunction community room is also offered, providing space for out-of-hours activities.

Deffo another decent example of a more creative, inspiring space for kids. Especially the interior. Well done.
That font though...
