Students settle into former Edinburgh cinema
7N Architects have completed an 86 bedroom student build comprising a mix of studio and cluster flats on the site of an A-listed cinema in Edinburgh’s south side.

The Buccleuch property sees the less significant rear of the cinema replaced by a five storey infill intended to sit in harmony with adjoining tenements with a  contemporary palette of white render and polished concrete panels referencing the white Hathenware façade of a retained entrance on Clerk Street.

Both the auditorium and foyer of the art deco cinema have been retained for re-use as a cultural venue with key features such as a sky ceiling preserved.

Floated ideas for the retained auditorium include a champagne bar, restaurant and coffee lounge

"sit in harmony with adjoining tenements with a contemporary palette of white render"

Hardly harmonious, but when will people realise white render + Scottish climate dinnae go?

I remember that cinema! Last film I went to see there was "A.I." round about 2001. Memories.
I really like 7N and I think this is a good build but I'm surprised they sanctioned the use of....W H I T E R E N D E R. As #1 stated, when will people learn that using that in this climate is...well it's obviously just bloody stupid. God, seriously it's a huge pet peeve of mine. It. Never. Ages. Well...Ever. Please. Stop. Using. It. There are plenty other colours they could use for goodness sake, why persist with white? It's really does boggle my mind.
