Final phase of BRE Innovation Park launched
BRE have launched the final phase of their Ravenscraig innovation park to dovetail with the first application of cladding to the Curriculum House.

Built with participation from students of New College Lanarkshire the demonstration home is being built as a ‘live’ educational initiative with architectural technology students currently on hand to assist.

Dr David Kelly, group director BRE Innovation Park Networks said: “At BRE, we aim to blend science and technology with innovation and entrepreneurship to find solutions for existing and future buildings not only in Scotland but in the UK, in Europe and around the world.

"This project will have a significant impact in terms of making our buildings better but also in helping us progress the skills of our young people so they can develop careers fit for the global workplace.”

The Curriculum House comprises a thermally efficient closed panel timber frame build system manufactured by Scotframe, which minimises energy usage and waste.

It is great to see our work being displayed on such a brilliant architectural site. I would like to point out though, that the HNC and HND computer aided architectural design and technology students did more than participate, using the skills they learned in their first year on this course, they designed, created all the drawings and documentation for planning and building control, as well as pitched their ideas to the various partners like scotframe, dimplex, airflow, cellecta, rockpanel and nordan etc. While they were keen to use natural, modern and vernacular materials, their initial design concepts were very colourful to reflect the young average age of the group (19). The construction students within the college are now heavily involved with the AT students and getting their hands dirty on a real live project as they begin installing the cladding with their class lecturers looking on. I personally can't wait to see them progress it further.
