Moxy move on Edinburgh Airport with 230 bed hotel
Marriot owned hotel brand Moxy is continuing its roll out with plans for a 230 bed hotel at Edinburgh Airport on the site of a former golf driving range on the Royal Highland Showground site.

Fronting a prominent approach road the L-shaped build will be faced in STO render and Alcubond aluminium cladding panels, the latter of which will be used to highlight a ‘corner feature section’ and other random windows to break up the elevation.

In a design statement Faithful + Gould wrote: “The hotel is proposed to be constructed as a ‘ground floor plus four’ arrangement, which will allow an increased height ground floor suited for the shared open communal space. Storeys above this will be uniform given that the hotel is to be of a modular construction from the first floor upwards.

“Amongst the design team it was agreed to create an area of visual interest above the main elevation and on the gable along Eastfield Road which consists of a ‘towel rail’ element, built out using Alucobond cladding panels. This creates visual interest to the elevation and helps to break up repeated windows and cladding to the elevation.”

The new hotel follows plans for a similar venue at Aberdeen Airport.

'ground floor plus four' arrangement.

So... that will be five floors?

I love the 'towel rail' area of visual interest. It reminds me of a disco in Aberdeen I used to frequent in the late seventies.

What's happening with the repeating windows? Sorry, I was distracted by the visual interest, or 'pink light' as it is also known.

With that towel rail conveniently in place, Christo could do a good job on this.

Clearly designed by F+G as well.

Possibly the worst descriptive text I've ever read. The text alone proves that this is simply not architecture.

The testosterone emanating from the F'nG website says it all, really.

what we do
who does it
where we do it

that's pretty impressive, I'd say.

Good grief! A towel rail "designed" by surveyors! I'm sure it'll be a credit to its location - near the silage pit at the Highland Show. Chortling with mirth, not!
