Public consultation held for £250m Stonehaven masterplan

A public consultation has been held in the Aberdeenshire town of Stonehaven to build a supermarket, hotel, 500 homes, community facilities and a road bridge.

Drawn up by Drum Property Group and Barratt North Scotland the phased work at Mill of Forest will include 125 homes classed as affordable in addition to new community facilities and employment land.

Chris Ross, senior land manager at Barratt North Scotland said: “As well as the long debated discussion about where a supermarket should be located in Stonehaven, a key issue for the local community and their families is both the affordability and supply of homes within the town. It is vital that the current imbalance is addressed, that is why we are committed to delivering 125 affordable homes as part of the Mill of Forest proposals.”

A planning application for the £250m scheme will be filed shortly.

A new road bridge is required to open up the site for development

The plans for 500 new homes are significantly scaled back from an earlier bid to build 1,500 homes on the site.

The project will deliver a new out-of-town supermarket

Stonehaven needs this. Will be interesting to see what the local politicians say this time around with 1000 less houses...

I struggle to see how this will benefit Stonehaven. It was my understanding that the bypass acted as a 'green belt' for the town. This looks to me like a self contained new town clinging to the edge of an established town that needs investment and footfall to its existing town centre not an out of town shopping centre sucking life out of it with some homes tacked on for good measure. I though we had realised that out of town shopping developments are not the way forward. Poor Show.
