Councillors approve demolition of B-listed Hawick mill
Scottish Borders Council have granted conditional consent to demolition of the B-listed Wilton Mill clock tower, Hawick, after accepting the applicants argument that repair was not economically viable – either through sale or cross-subsidy with a planned supermarket.

Should Historic Scotland also give their approval this would see the mill brought down in a controlled manner to preserve period details and provide a last record of the structure.

An existing boundary wall will also be dismantled and used in any redevelopment.

Aldi have submitted plans for an Aitken Turnbull designed supermarket on the site of the demolished mill which will incorporate the retained clock tower cupola and stone detailing.

hmm. Rendering and statement not matching, there!
I do have sympathy for economic viability arguments. But an Aldi with a pretend clock tower is a bit of a travesty, methinks! Lipstick on a pig. silk purse / sow's ear etc.
