Edinburgh’s Haymarket regeneration moves above ground
A £200m regeneration project at Edinburgh’s Haymarket will begin to break ground with construction commencing on 320,000sq/ft of office space, 300 space underground car park, 54,000sq/ft of retail and leisure and a 350 room apart-hotel following the successful strengthening Victorian railway tunnels below ground.

Designed by Richard Murphy and CDA Architects on behalf of Interserve and Tiger Developments the scheme, for one of Edinburgh’s last remaining major gap sites, is projected to complete by mid-2017.

Tim Shepherd, senior project manager with Interserve commented: “The engineering and logistical challenges were immense, with the impact of working on the Victorian tunnels in the dead of night where access was severely limited.

“Working on a live site which connects the capital with the rest of the UK has been extremely demanding but we have worked closely with Network Rail to ensure no disruption to rail services.”

Advance discussions are currently taking place for construction of an additional 70,000sq/ft of retail and office space.
