‘Art Deco style' Dundee flats secure approval
A block of 12 flats planned for the site of a demolished Dundee cinema have been approved by the city council, enabling Ramsay’s Properties to proceed with the Hiddleston & Feist designed scheme.

Set back from the street by 1.3m with entrances and car parking to the rear the project is intended to clearly delineate public and private spaces.

In a supporting statement the architects said: “The building has been designed to respect the Art-Deco style of the disused and dilapidated cinema which was a prominent feature of Lochee’s townscape.”

Finished in a mix of white terracotta stucco and glazed brickwork the property replaces the B-listed Rialto Cinema on Lochee Road, a conservation area, recently demolished following a 2007 fire.

these images are shocking!!

“The building has been designed to respect the art-deco style of the disused and dilapidated cinema which was a prominent feature of Lochee’s townscape.”

This design insults the Art Deco Style.

What a belter! I hope the people of Dundee appreciate this beautiful creation. They are blessed to receive it.

Those sketches almost had me fooled. I really had to look closely to realise they've used a SketchUp filter.

Talented folk right there!

Initially i thought it was a scene out of one of the computer games that Dundee is famous for, but they've never have anything so poorly rendered. Dundee is on the up but when B Listed is replaced with this it seems to have shuddered to a stop somewhat! H&F...sounds a bit posh for a place working out their mums spare room....

Er, this replaces a listed BRICK building in a conservation area which happened to have a few red tiles. What have these clowns produced. It does look quick ridiculous, what a wee shame for Lochee.

The time spent downloading pointless models from the 3D warehouse should have been spent designing the blooming thing. I mean... why oh why put so much effort into a sketch up model when there's nothing worth visualising.

“The building has been designed to respect the Art-Deco style of the disused and dilapidated cinema which was a prominent feature of Lochee’s townscape.”

Looks more like dolled up regenerated council housing circa 1993. I wonder why the developer has gone for lots of flats where a brick cinema burned down? Scotland has very odd brick and stone which combusts so readily, esp during long and costly rebuilding.

I don't think that guy is going to fit in his Audi A8. Another great project for H&F's website.

I don't know why you are complaining, this is amazing, I admit when I saw the words 'Art Deco Style' I did stop and shudder for a brief moment, but when I saw how good this actually looks, whoa! I'm glad they burnt down the old cinema for this, it makes sense obviously.
