Finalised designs prepared for Seabraes footbridge
Morgan Sindall has prepared finalised designs for a new pedestrian and cycle footbridge at Seabraes, Dundee, connecting the University with the waterfront regeneration area with a single span across the east coast mainline.

Steel sections for the connector are currently being fabricated ahead of a planned completion date in May.

Dundee city development convener Will Dawson commented: “I’m delighted we are reaching this important stage in the construction of the Seabraes footbridge. This stunning design and strategic location will soon make it a city landmark.

“Thanks to the new bridge pedestrians and cyclists will get easy access from one of the main arteries of Dundee to the heart of the waterfront.”

The £3.5m bridge is being funded by the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund, Scottish Enterprise, Cycling Walking and Safer Streets, the developer behind the Riverside Flats and Dundee City Council.

'cyclists will get easy access' providing they don't mind getting off their bikes and carrying them down the stairs (I can't imagine the lift will survive long in this location).
Infrastructure designers are still not grasping the core idea of cycling as a sustainable form of transport. Plus, as a previous comment has pointed out, the bridge only goes to Tesco, not the riverside, you've still got to cross the dual carriageway. Pointless to everyone except Tesco, who appear to be the only people not helping pay for it.... which must be a jolly wheeze for them.

@Gill, what a load of rubbish Gill. The walkway connects the Perth Road, Seabraes and Riverside. Already Seabraes is beginning to be developed and their is the public walkway on Riverside which runs the full 8km.

This bridge will be used by far more people than those just going to TESCO.

Looks great. This connection between The Perth Road and Riverside (there is a new pedestrain crossing also Gill) will add much needed vitality and activity to Riverside.

I run along the Riverside via the entrance of the Tay Road Bridge. Having to cross major roads and crossings to get onto the Quayside and Riverside can be increasingly dangerous due to changing road layouts. I welcome the bridge and how it will shave a good minute off my times... ????
