Arranged around a split-level courtyard the Richard Murphy Architects and Buro Happold designed scheme is formed primarily of six person apartments, access being provided by open balconies and two suspended spiral stairs.
In a statement the architects said: “Most apartments have communal kitchens at significant urban corners and internal circulation is generally day-lit and single sided. An upper level terrace is available for all students. Most rooms have the distinctive projecting window bay which we are happy to see is already being colonised by students as a window seats.”
Costed at £12m it forms the first phase of a John Hope Architect’s master plan for the Old Town which includes a JM and Oberlanders block at Holyrood North.
