Hampton by Hilton to open first Glasgow hotel
An ageing office block on Glasgow’s West Campbell Street is to undergo an £11m redevelopment to house a new Hampton by Hilton branded hotel in time for the Commonwealth Games this summer.

The 88 room hotel is one of 23 new Hilton hotels planned for the UK by 2015 and will be run under a franchise agreement with developer SCOT Sheridan and features its own gym and bar.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, Hilton Worldwide's senior vice president, development, Europe and Africa, said, "Hilton Worldwide has a strong presence in Glasgow, led by our flagship Hilton Glasgow which last year celebrated its 20th anniversary.

"Visitor numbers to the city are expected to grow by up to one million a year until 2016 so the time is right to go on to expand our portfolio here.”

David MacLachlan, director, SCOT Sheridan added: “We are delighted that our extensive commercial property expertise and experience with the Business Premises Renovation Allowance scheme is helping to transform an empty office building into a stunning new home for one of the world’s leading hospitality brands.”

The Aedas penned scheme supercedes earlier plans to convert the property into student accommodation.

Bit 80s innit? Looks like something an oil giant did in Aberdeen 30 years ago

Absolutely. Felix Happer would feel right at home here. All it needs is a 911 parked outside.

There is a reason for its 1980's architectural panache. This article is slightly misleading. "Redevelopment" infers a wholesale knock down and construction of a new building. Whereas this is in fact a refurbishment project with a sensitively added top floor.
