Work to replace Dundee’s 1930s built Harris Academy with a brand new building has commenced with main contractor Robertson moving on site of the £30m build.

Dundee City Council has appointed hub East Central Scotland and development partner Amber Blue to oversee the 15,000sq/m school, providing space for 1,200 pupils and a range of shared community facilities.

Historic features from the B-listed school, such as a clock tower and entrance portico, will be retained within the new development.
Keith Taylor, regional managing director at Robertson said:  “Work is now underway on this exciting project to replace a building which is no longer fit for purpose. Over the course of the next two-and-a-half-years we will deliver a well-designed, modern space for 1,200 pupils which will also be open for community use.”

Harris Academy is being delivered by a team including architects Holmes Miller; Wallace Whittle M&E engineers; structural engineering firm Goodsons.

Completion is pencilled in for spring 2016.
