Protests at proposed Tesco site

June 20 2007

Protesters pelted the proposed site of a new Tesco supermarket in Partick with seeds earlier this week.

Campaigners fired seed bombs at the site with a medieval catapult in order to highlight the local community's opposition to the new store.

Nic Green, spokeman for the All Tomorrow's Particks protest group who staged the event, said: "A lot of people wanted to see more green space - so that's what we're going to make happen, by planting hundreds of sees on the site."

Tesco has submitted a second, smaller planning application to Glasgow City Council in case the original bid is rejected.
