The developer has set out a range of 20 ‘opportunities’ identified by ‘Art and Living: Laurieston’ for a series of artworks, tree planting and sculptures together with a mobile art studio.
To that end artist Peter McCaughey of arts organisation WAVEparticle has been appointed to lead the project, following on from his commission to design an artist led journey along the Clyde in advance of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
McCaughey said: “This exciting project is one of the largest artist-led commissions of public artwork in Glasgow in recent years.
“We want to take the memories and stories collected by the people of Laurieston over decades and incorporate them into the fabric of the new development, as well as bringing to life ideas from workshops with community groups, local historians, artists, individuals and principal partners encountered during our research into this development.”
Laurieston is a £90m initiative to deliver 800 new homes on brownfield land to the south of Glasgow city centre.
