Paisley’s Arnotts store development plan unveiled
Plans to transform a derelict department store in Paisley town centre have been unveiled by Renfrewshire Council.

An artists impression of the Abbey Quarter plan prepared by Cooper Cromar shows 31 new build flats on Lawn Street, together with a second phase of development to transform the listed building into nine additional apartments with ground floor retail.

Work on the first phase will be carried out by Westpoint Homes on behalf of the Link Group next year for completion in spring 2015.

This will augment work to create a new cloister at Paisley Abbey and ongoing refurbishment of Gilmour House to create new student accommodation.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Mark Macmillan pointed out that this was just one of a number of projects planned for the area, including work to preserve Paisley’s architectural heritage through the Townscape Heritage Initiative, and the £2.4m revamp of the town hall.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has also confirmed it will be making a £1.8m investment in improved bus infrastructure in the town centre.

Macmillan added: “We are also hoping to inject new life into the town’s night-time economy by taking forward plans to allow traffic to return to the High Street in the evenings."
