Students' tower block designs on show

May 29 2007

A group of students from the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment tasked with refurbishing an existing tower block are to show their plans at an end of year exhibition currently showing at Garthdee.

Blending contemporary approaches to sustainability and softened aesthetics, the plans for Aberdeen's Seamount Court are on show as part of an exhibition launching a year-long programme of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the school.

The group's designs substituted concrete surrounds for greenery with improved landscaping, utilised carbon reducing heat recovery ventilation and magnetically driven lifts in order to improve the image of high rise living whilst highlighting the economics of refurbishing existing buildings.

The exhibition - 1, 2, 3... & 4, 5: Celebrating Diversity - runs daily between 10am and 4pm until 30th May for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year work, then from 15th-19th June for 4th and 5th year.
