Hillhead Primary conversion wins planning

The B listed property stands in the heart of the Glasgow West conservation area and has been empty since August 2011 when pupils were decanted to new build premises nearby.
Designed by Jewitt & Wilkie Architects the remodeled school will incorporate a new build penthouse level, set back from the building line and informed by study of extensions in sensitive locations such as Louviers Music School by Opus 5.
Taking the form of a reflective, glazed curtain wall it is intended to reflect an image of the sky and thus minimise its visual impact from street level.
Most original features, including cast iron spindles and decorative plasterwork will be retained although the original windows will be replaced.
Richard Brown, Glasgow City Council's executive director of development and regeneration, said: "While the wholesale replacement of original windows would not normally be supported, it is acknowledged that the balance needed between preserving the building and ensuring its re-use may necessitate flexibility on some matters."

Sounds like a fantastic plan looking forward to the end results. By the looks of it monkey9000 is not a developer or an architect so he/she hasn't a clue what there even talking about... Bless

Louviers being a building that creates an obvious and playful juxtaposition between the new and old, it certainly does not "minimise its visual impact from street level".
Jewitt & Wilkie Architects are talking a load of codswallop by the looks of it. About time people stopped throwing fluff into things when it's completely unsubstantiated and just say they and the developer were too scared to put any more effort into it.
