Fountainbridge hotel plans submitted
Croydon Hotels Ltd has submitted proposals for the demolition of a vacant office block at Gardner’s Crescent, Edinburgh, to erect a 102 bedroom hotel development.

Conceived by Comprehensive Design Architects the scheme is intended to add bulk to the cityscape with a front facing five storey ashlar sandstone façade above a granite base element.

A lightwell driven through the centre of the block allows a higher density of rooms to be inserted internally.

To the rear the scheme faces onto an inner courtyard which will be fronted by white render whilst a zinc-clad roof level provides additional space whilst respecting an adjacent B listed telephone exchange.

A little dull perhaps, but good to see CDA haven't gone all jiggly-window barcode facade crazy across the front. Done well this could be quite dignified.

How about some windows on the gable corner facing Gardners Crescent?
