£200 million Haymarket project unveiled by Tiger Developments

Tiger developments has announced a £200 million plan to build two new hotels, a continental-style boulevard and retail and office space at a derelict site in Edinburgh City Centre.

Award-winning architects Richard Murphy, CDA and Sutherland Hussey are to draw up designs for the project, to be known as ‘The Haymarket.’

The focal point of the proposed development is a 160-room, four-star hotel facing onto Haymarket junction, but the scheme will also feature a 400-space car park, a pedestrian thoroughfare linking Haymarket with the financial district, cafes, retail outlets and a 200-room, three-star hotel.

Richard Murphy said: “The four-star hotel will re-define Haymarket in the same way The Balmoral transformed the Waverley Valley and the Caledonian Hotel enhanced the West End of Edinburgh.”

Planning applications for the project are expected to be submitted to Edinburgh City Council in June, with completion hoped for 2012, if approved.
