Rubbish energy proposal wins planning
A scheme to build a £150m waste to energy plant in Glasgow has cleared a major hurdle after councillors voted to award planning permission.

The Clyde Energy Centre will be situated on the King George V dock in Cardonald, adjacent to the M8, and will handle around 250k tonnes of waste each year.

Backed by Peel Environmental the plans have been drawn up by architects Fletcher Rae, who have sought to imbue a degree of architectural flair to the 49m tall structure.

Jane Gaston, development manager for Peel Environmental, said: “We have developed an iconic design which reflects its position at the gateway to the city.

"We are pleased councillors have recognised such a design could help Glasgow to emulate the success of other similar, city-based facilities in Europe. These are viewed on the merit of their design as much as they are on their contribution to landfill diversion."

The starchitect clearly had a vision of a Blue Whale or other Baleen eating a giant wall of Chocolate...inspired by too much green cheese and dubious mushrooms...

Both next to the river and the M8 and 50m tall.....this won't have much impact will it....
.... I suspect it will have a slightly less than positive effect on the image of the city...

I totally agree Archi. We know how to make the arrival in the city appealing don't we.
Fly to the airport car park then drive past the the pungent odours of the sewage works, passing the horrors of the abbatoir fixed in the mind's eye and face the smoke stack of the huge horendous rubbish incinirator. Might as well pop into the country's biggest and ugliest hospital on the way past. Lovely, just lovely!
