Kier drops RMJM from South Lanarkshire schools framework
Leading contractor Kier has announced that it will not renew its contract with RMJM to provide architectural services for an £800m school construction framework following a decision to place the firms British companies into administration.

Even though the practice is continuing to trade under a new name, RMJM Europe, their contract was automatically terminated as a result of the administration process. Instead of signing a new agreement however Kier elected to appoint Stallan-Brand to the project instead.

In a statement Kier’s regional managing director for operations in Scotland, Brian McQuade, said: “Kier’s contract with RMJM was automatically terminated when RMJM went into receivership and we have since put an interim arrangement in place with an alternative practice. We continue to work closely with our client, South Lanarkshire Council, on all matters concerning the South Lanarkshire Schools framework.”

RMJM delivered a number of schools under the partnership in a first tranche of work; including Cairns Primary, Woodhead Primary    and St Joseph’s Primary.

There is always two sides to this. Course its a great scoop for Stallan:Brand. What what about the employees of RMJM that are losing out here, the ones that had nothing to do with senior management decisions and handlings that lead to the administration. Unfortunately this decision has wider impact that someone 'scooping' a job, but Kier must be commended for making a brave decision to go with an individual rather than a corporation.

Cue RMJM staff defecting to SB, and why not-hardly any less secure.
