Dundee Station planning application submitted
A planning application has been submitted by Nicoll Russell Studio to Dundee City Council for a £14m replacement concourse building at Dundee Railway Station.

Designed to frame views of the Discovery and V&A Museum.from the High Street the new station building is intended to act as a civic statement by stacking hotel accommodation above the new concourse and providing space for a café, newsagent, retail unit and restaurant.

Retaining the original Victorian platform building the rebuild will rise to six storeys and embrace a curving plan to hug a new pedestrian plaza, fronted by a signature triple height arched concourse - a structural move necessitated by the need to span the tunnel below, but also a nod toward the grand railway arches of old.

Willie Watt, partner at Nicoll Russell Studios, told Urban Realm: “We were pleased that so many people took the time and effort to respond to the consultation exercise, including those who came to the presentation at Discovery Point."

"We received a number of interesting comments and suggestions relating to all aspects of the proposed development."

"Since the consultation ended we have carefully gone through all of the comments submitted and taken on board some of them in creating the final planning application that has now been submitted."
The keystone of this arch will incorporate a digital clock and the station building will be clad in terracotta rainscreen and anodised aluminium.

All I can say is that at least it has been designed by a local practice.....and best thing yet it does not have a bloody blue mono pitch!!!
The new concourse looks only 10m deep, as there are no images of the waiting area by the platform, I would deduct that this is not being improved upon....it's a pretty miserable space down below, a slightly for boding welcome to Dundee.
At least these images are a tad improvement on the previous fascist design.

A digital clock keystone and terracotta rainscreen . . . is this the best we hope for?
