Partick student housing nears completion
A development of 201 student beds on the banks of the river Kelvin, Partick, is nearing external completion.

Designed by Manson Architects and built by Watkin Jones the seven storey brick clad structure replaces a former low-rise business unit.

It is the latest in a glut of purpose built student housing to be built around the periphery of the west end and has risen in tandem with a much larger Fletcher Joseph designed complex at nearby Yorkhill.

Another huge scheme was recently built on Thurso Street, directly across the water, as students are encouraged out of private lets and into purpose-built accommodation.

A totally out-of-scale filing cabinet for students tarted up with brick. A mess. Apparently the architects took their cue from the surrounding buildings.... its such a shame they used the massing of Yorkhill Hospital as their inspiration.

Bulky. Brutal. Unimaginative bilge. Somehow Frankenstein the Monsters bloated unibrow immediately appeared in my mind when I looked at these images.

'Muckle' would be a good description. Tiny wee windows - wouldn't be out of place in East Berlin.

This is just a block of Lorne, greying in parts.

Look at the lower left corner of the thing, and you will see that it has already started to sweat lard.

Soon it will be sweating lard all over.

I know that Glasgow has some revolting eating habits, but is it necessary to advertise the city's shame to the world with this diabolical pabulum?

Fit only for Lorne weevils is what it is.

Looks like Ayn Rand had a hand in designing this for the freeloading, traffic-cone purloining masses.
