Abbotsford House secures £1m Heritage Lottery Fund grant
Abbotsford House, the Scottish Borders home of writer and poet Sir Walter Scott, has received £1m in funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund in the form of a ‘catalyst endowment grant’.

The money will be used to leverage additional funding in order to bridge a £2.7m shortfall in the budget believed to be required to safeguard the 19th century homes future.

Jason Dyer, Chief Executive, The Abbotsford Trust said: “When The Abbotsford trust was formed in 2007, this exceptional property was in danger of being lost forever.  Now, thanks to the generosity of public sector bodies and private individuals, we have raised £11.8 million of the £14.5 million we believe is required to safeguard Abbotsford’s future.”

Colin McLean, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund in Scotland, added: “Sir Walter Scott is one of the UK’s most celebrated authors and his work is recognised throughout the world.  By encouraging new money through philanthropic giving, this Catalyst Endowment grant will help the Trust build a stronger financial future and help safeguard this national heritage treasure for future generations to enjoy.”
