Work commences on West Linton Primary School
Construction work has begun on the delivery of a new £9m primary school for the village of West Linton after Scottish Borders Council has commissioned Robertson construction to manage the build process, with Archial handling the design.

Managing Director for Robertson Construction Group, Derek Shewan, said: "We are confident this important project will create a sense of excitement and innovation which will give pupils and staff alike an outstanding educational environment.”

In their critique of the plans Architecture and Design Scotland noted:” We generally support the current designs and feel that the proposed single storey, domestic scaled building is appropriate for the site and for creating a pleasant and welcoming environment for the pupils.

"The community hall appears fairly large from the outside in comparison to the rest of the building, though we note that the increased height of this element is located with the intention of providing an appropriate civic scale to the community entrance.

“The ‘central street’ is quite generous in width, we understand some 4-5 metres wide, and we note and support the proposed incidental use of the space for informal teaching. The provision of glazed teaching spaces off of the circulation corridor to the south, where toilet blocks were previous proposed, is an improvement on the layout and allows light and views into and out of the space.”

The school is expected to complete by May, 2013.

Thankfully SBC have continued to use Argeni...SM....Parrs as opposed to their In-house team. While no Kingsland, it's certainly better than the Cooncil's own Denholm mess.
