Planning secured for Morar residence

Designed by Raw Architecture Workshop the home will be sited on a steeply sloping site, allowing the structure to take advantage of the thermal mass of the ground whilst offering open vistas toward the isles of Eigg, Rum and Skye.
Custom designed for a local deep sea diver and primary school head the residence has been conceived to provide optimal sunset views over nearby islands.
With that in mind the house has been laid out in an ‘upside down’ manner, with living spaces on the top floor, bedrooms at mid level and reception accommodation on the lower floor.
Clad in black stained timber, sourced from sutainably managed Forestry Commission land, the property will adopt a prefabricated timber panel construction process to minimise on site exposure.
Landscaping work has already commenced on site with construction penciled in for mid 2012 to complete by early 2013.
Dark colours were selected to gel with the dark colours of indigenous bracken and heather

Graeme is both a generous and hugely talented architect .... he genuinely has a unique blend of confidence and humility combined with an extraordinary visual intelligence.

I love this website; positive comments do not exist here. It's great; even if the building is about 56/100 as a student project.
Also Urban Realm - can you expand; is the client a primary school head that enjoys deep sea diving? Or 2 separate individuals each with their own occupation? I really need these important details before I can critique the project thoroughly.

Quite an exciting looking building. Would like to know the dimensions, outlook (South/North facing etc), budget...

Delighted that this modest but unconventional residential building is welcomed by the local planning authority. Congratulations to those who approved the design. I hope that their colleagues in other parts of Scotland raise their game too. More, more!
