£150 million to be spent on developing derelict site

November 29 2006

Dawn Developments and Glasgow City Council have agreed upon plans for a £150 million strategy to transform the former railway goods yard at the junction of High Street and Duke Street into a bustling business centre.

The scheme - to be known as Collegelands - was announced last week and will include a hotel, office blocks, student accommodation and parking facilities.

City Council development and regeneration director Steve inch said: "There has been no investment of this scale, in terms of office space, east of High Street," and firms have already begun to show an interest in the site.

The first phase is due for completion in 2008, but the overall scheme will take up to a decade to finish.
