Falkirk Wheel masterplan wins planning approval
Outline plans for the regeneration of land around the Falkirk Wheel have been approved by Falkirk Council – subject to conditions.

Tamfourhill to the east of Falkirk, comprises some 58 acres of canalside development land and is being developed by a partnership between Falkirk Council and British Waterways.

It will see a mile long corridor along the Forth and Clyde canal transformed into a new waterside quarter replete with homes, a hotel, marina, retail & leisure facilities and a public square around the B listed Union Inn.

These facilities would be split up into three distinctive urban “personalities”, a high density ‘hub’, medium density housing and low density housing and woodland.

The scheme is being designed by Michael Laird Architects.
A 50 berth marina would integrate with the canal

Where do the Kelpies (Andy Scott) fit into this picture? Is there another shiplift between canal and Carron?

Well I can exclusively reveal that the hostelry in question - Union Inn - is located at Lock 16. The clue is in the name.
No more Kelpies on the horizon as far as I know although not ruling out some local councillors waking up next to one if the whole scheme goes belly up. Also good to see a decent Architects practice is onboard (no pun intended)

Who is the decent Architects practice involved? The only practice name I see is Michael Laird Architects?
