Developer chosen to advance £347m Gateshead homes plan
Evolution Gateshead, a consortium comprising of the Home Group and Galliford Try, has been selected by Gateshead Council to partner on plans to create around 2,400 new homes in the city – concluding a two and a half year search.

The £347m scheme will see housing built on 19 separate plots around the city, including both greenfield and brownfield land, as part of a 20 year regeneration plan.

Some 70 hectares of land is encompassed by the plans, including a former rail freight depot,  which will play host to the first phase of housing with construction scheduled to start early next year.

Mark Henderson, Chief Executive of Home Group, said: “We want to build outstanding homes and flourishing communities, representing another chapter in Gateshead’s remarkable transformation.

“We’ve commissioned world-leading architects designing to the highest environmental standards. Our financial strength, expertise in housing and care and support, and local presence, coupled with Gateshead’s vision and an outstanding partner in Galliford Try, put us in a unique position to deliver.”
