Malcolm Fraser Scottish Ballet plans objected

July 1 2006

Malcolm Fraser’s plans for the Scottish ballet building at Glasgow’s Tramway have met with objections from some locals. The MFA scheme takes a difficult brief for a rehearsal and set-making workshop and weaves it into the existing complex, adding public views into the workshops and reflected views of the ballet’s rehearsal rooms. A top-lit atrium provides a public lobby leading to predominately private functions.

Some members of the Pollokshields Heritage Society object to the treatment of the elevation of building and the plans to demolish an unremarkable building at the rear of the complex. Fraser, who is an advocate of community participation in the planning process, believes that public concerns will be addressed through the design development process.
