Smailholm Tower in line for turf roof
Smailholm Tower, a 15th century tower house in the Borders, could be given a new roof after Historic Scotland announced plans to make the structure watertight via installation of a turf roof.

Rainwater ingress through the existing stone flags has been causing damage to the upper levels but trials have suggested that turf and clay soft capping could address the problem.
