BDP’s Queen Elizabeth hospital readies for opening
Finishing touches are being made to the largest single site development of its kind in the UK, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, which opens to patients on June 16.

This will see a phased transfer of staff and services from Selly Oak and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals through to October 2011.

This process will see a Medical Engineering team oversee the relocation of 22,500 separate pieces of equipment

Already the first phase of the development has been handed over by contractor Balfour Beatty to Consort Healthcare who have begun to fit out completed areas.

Traditional hospital dinners will be given a makeover too with high street retailers moving into an atrium food court to provide restaurant, café and coffee facilities.

Designed by BDP the hospital will provide 1,200 beds and the largest critical care centre in Europe.
