Labour go green

April 22 2010

Labour go green
Scottish secretary Jim Murphy has pledged to pursue a ‘green revolution’ in Scotland, part of a plan which Labour believe will create ‘tens of thousands’ of skilled jobs.

The plan amounts to a commitment by the party to obtain finance to build skills and develop expanded home energy production in the renewables sector.

This would tap into a Green Investment Bank to be established by the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, to fund UK green projects to the tune of some £2bn.

Money for the scheme would be sourced from a combination of asset sales and private sector investment.

The war chest is stated to be ‘crucial’ to bolstering the UK’s still faltering economy.
