House building underway at Ravenscraig
Construction work has commenced on the first 850 of 3,500 homes that will eventually be built on the 1,100 acre former Ravenscraig steelworks site, Lanarkshire.

Built by David Wilson Homes with support from Ravenscraig Ltd, North Lanarkshire Council, the Scottish Government and Clyde Valley Housing Association the development will be called Phoenix Park.

All of the new homes have been designed specifically for the new site and will include 45 properties for social rent.

James Watson, managing director David Wilson Homes West Scotland, said: “If your view of the Ravenscraig area is clouded by its industrial past, then think again. This latest development will provide both private and affordable housing in the area. It is also ideally located for commuting throughout the Central belt. Motherwell is fast becoming the place to live, within touching distance of a rural environment, but still within close proximity to the City."

Motherwell Colleges new campus is already up and running on the site with a regional sports facility due to open later in the year.

Ravenscraig Ltd is now turning their attention toward plans for a second phase of work, which will involve the development of the town centre.
