3DReid detail three tiered Princes St Primark
Primark have released massing model images of their proposed 3DReid designed store on Edinburgh’s Princes Street.

A key consideration of the design is that it reflects the scale and proportion of its surroundings, this sees the structure take the form of three sequenced blocks; Princes St frontage, Rose St frontage and a Rose Street mews footprint.

It is stated that this approach acknowledges the structure of James Craig’s original masterplan for the New Town whilst presenting an “attractive roofscape” to key views.

The release sparked immediate debate on Primark’s discussion forum with Sheila Moffat decrying: “I think the drawings are dull and do not give a proper "feel" of what we would expect to see as a finished project. I also think that the Rose street facade is quite ugly.”

Many respondents were more concerned with the Rose Street façade than Princes Street with Chryso Johnstone stating: “I think Rose Street is the side which will need the most traditionalism since it's so old and people seem to forget how lovely that wee street is.”
