Aberdonians steer clear of City Square consultation
A midnight deadline on the public consultation into the future of Aberdeen’s Union Terrace Gardens looks set to pass not with a bang but with a whimper tonight as strong feeling on either side of the City Square fence is muted by the resounding apathy of a silent majority.

ACSEF, the development body plugging the plans, have criticised “public apathy” for jeopardising the scheme after reporting a measly 3% of city residents had commented thus far on the £140m scheme, brainchild of oil tycoon Sir Ian Wood.

Wood has threatened to walk away from his vaulting ambition if Aberdonians failed to back plans to entomb existing gardens under a giant raised concourse.

One prominent detractor who failed to add to the paltry 7,500 tally of vocal residents was Annie Lennox, despite publicly blasting the scheme as “vandalism”. The singer has been based in London since 1971.

Straight away I can think of three better things we can spend our money on:
1. Health, education and social services,
2. AWPR,
3. Marshal College,

Nice thought Ian. and thanks. But bad timing and bad execution. Stick to the oil Ian and leave architecture and urban design to the people who know what they are doing. UTG lives on.
