Page/Park take theatre goers ‘from the street to the seat’
Page/Park has stated publicly that their recently won commission for Glasgow’s Theatre Royal is all about “the journey from the street to the seat”.

The architects are drafting up £8.5m plans for the A listed theatre complex which will incorporate a foyer extension and interior redesign.

This extension will rise on an undeveloped plot of land sandwiched between the theatre and a new office building on Cowcaddens Road.

It is hoped that this will serve to “change peoples perceptions of opera and theatre” and draw in new audiences who may not have passed the theatres ornate doors in the past.

Scottish Opera, who are commissioning the work, are hoping to secure finance from a combination of government and heritage body grants and private sponsorship.

The theatre has previously been described as "fantastic inside but drab outside" by Urban Realm contributor Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp.

Work is timetabled to complete for 2014.
