Hoskins tackles Edinburgh’s Royal High School
Edinburgh’s A-listed former Royal High School is to undergo a £35m redevelopment into an “arts hotel” at the hands of Gareth Hoskins Architects.

The development will fuse hotel provision with a restaurant, café and public gallery space.

Duddingston House Properties have been awarded the contract by Edinburgh City Council, who will remain as the buildings owners.

The developer is to finance the project privately and will now submit a planning application. It is expected that the hotel will open in 2014.

Once mooted as a possible location for the Scottish parliament the building has remained under utilised for nearly 40 years.

This hasn't exactly proved popular with those making comments on the Scotsman website. Gareth Hoskins OBE and Duddingstone House Properties have an amount of taint hanging around, one because of the Clerk Street Odeon fiasco, the other through the Trump Compulsory Purchase Orders. Still, they make money so they won't care.

There used to be some small amount of principle in these sort of things, sadly, long gone.
